Tottenham have replaced sacked Pochettino with Mourinho

Last night, Spurs released a statement saying that their 47-year-old Argentine manager has been sacked after five and a half years in charge. Pochettino had guided the Lilywhites to the finals of the UEFA Champions League last season but after a poor start to their Premier League campaign this season, Tottenham are now 14th in the standings.

The former Southampton manager joined Tottenham in 2014 but has failed to guide the club to any trophies in the last half a decade. On the other hand, Mourinho is an apt appointment who has experience in the Premier League and winning trophies. In his previous two appointments, he has won the EFL Cup, Europa League and Premier League. The Portuguese last managed Manchester United before he was sacked in December 2018.

Commenting on the appointment, Chairman Daniel Levy said:

Speaking on his appointment, Mourinho stated:

Having appointed Mourinho on a three-year contract, Spurs will be hoping to get their season back on track and enter the top four by the end of the season. With 14 points from 12 matches, they are 11 points adrift of Manchester City, who are in fourth. Currently, Liverpool lead the table and are eight points ahead of second-placed Leicester City.
